hello newcomers! great to see you getting started. Remember to complete the survey in the Getting Ready to Start section in the main wiki. You must have received an email inviting you to join the kickoff. It is a live webcast where one member of each of the sessions will present the spirit of their project. Hope to see you there! Instructions can be found in the mail and in the main wiki- getting ready to start page.

Hi all,

Happy to be here. My name is Mireille. I always wanted to know more about project management, but after doing the survey I wonder if I belong here. See, I am an instructor at a Teachers' college. The only managing that I do is pretty much in the classroom-not within the college itself. Could the instructors/moderators of this course please advise me whether I should opt for another EVO course or stick around?
Much obliged!

Dear mireille,
I wanted to write you an email but couldn't find you in our Yahoo group. You might want to join our YG for easier communication. http://groups.yahoo.com/groups/projectmanagement2014
In this way you can also ask us any doubt, question or suggestin in even more detail.

Hi Marina,

I already did that-even before this course started. I think you'll find me under pintolena. Tried to change that, but didn't know how to-sorry.
Thanks for trying.

Dear Mirelle,
Welcome to the community. From my humble experience at EVO, I can say that these are online sessions opened to everybody. I don't know why the moderators have decided to put the survey this way. I also felt a little bit frustrated when answering the questions about being a manager
. I don't agree that project management should be reserved for managers only. I was managing projects at my school for 7 years, without being a boss. If you ask me, pls, stay here and enjoy this wonderful topic. I am sure we have a lot to share and learn from each other. Good luck. Lucy

Hi Mirelle and Lucy, yes sorry about that. The survey wasn't supposed to exclude, just to find out what people are doing. It was badly phrased and we apologise. Yes, of course you should stick around Mireille :-) And of course, as Lucy says, project management is not just for managers.

Dear Mirelle and Lucy,
Sorry, I never expected a reaction like this, it was not our intention at all. Of course, EVOs are open learning communities. And of course there will be a variety of peoople joining in. The survey was intended to have a picture of the variety, not to make anyone feel bad.
The possibility of feeling frustrated is a challenge we all face when joining groups for the first time. What I can say is that the realities in which we all work are complex and the only way to find new ways is by sharing what each one of us knows and creating new knowledge.
Hope to read you around and accompany you while designing your projects!

Hello! My name is Sneza Filipovic and I am an EFL teacher from Belgrade, Serbia. I first attended an EVO session in 2012 (BaW) and I was so impressed by the friendly atmosphere and the spirit of sharing and caring. At that time it opened a new gate for me as I was on `pre-beginner` level concerning technology. I am looking forward to this session very much not only because I want to improve my skills but also because I`d like to go on sharing ideas with other teachers from all over the world. Kindest regards, Sneza

Hi Everyone!
I am from Pakistan. I teach English as a subject to college students. I am also doing my MBA in Education Management and wish to learn things that I wish to apply in my own context. Designing board games for teaching language is my passion.
As I teach at a girls' college I feel they should be provided with the opportunity to groom personally and professionally by giving them experiences to face global challenges.

Hi Everyone
And welcome to our EVO on Project Management. I’m “the other Andy” of the three presenters, Andy Curtis, and I’ll be dropping by from time to time to join the discussion. But as I’ll be on the road and in transit during the course, you’ll be seeing more of Marina and Andy H than me. In addition to my bio that’s posted on the site, I wanted to add my own 3-2-1 intro: Born and grew up in England; now based in Ontario, Canada; recently elected to be the next Incoming President of the TESOL International Association.
About my workplace, like Andy H, I also work independently and freelance, so my workplace is wherever I am at the time. I try to work from home as much as possible, but I travel a lot, and I have given online classes for the online MA TESOL program I teach on from many different locations – including from a hotel bathroom in India last year!
In terms of project management, I would like to continue to develop my ability to meet multiple deadlines on different projects, all of which are happening at the same time, while balancing quantity and quality.

Hi Again Everyone
I just wanted to give a quick summary of who we are in this particular EVO, based on the mini-survey questions that some of you answered earlier. Our Yahoo Group has around 90 members so far, and around 70 people have joined the participants’ wiki. Based on the 30 or so participants who completed the mini-survey, we have folks from Asia, Africa and Europe, North and South America and Australia, so we’re an extremely diverse group geographically. Most of those have taken on managerial responsibilities within the last couple of years, and the main responsibilities indicated were: selecting materials; planning new courses and providing professional development, as well as supervising classes and hiring teaching staff. So, that’s a quick snapshot of who we are as a group, which shows how much there is that we can learn from each other!

Andy Curtis said

And Hi for the third and final time in Week One!
This is just a note about project management in relation to transferable skills and classroom management, which have been touched on in some earlier postings, and which may develop into a recurring theme in our EVO. In our experience, many of the classroom management skills, such as time management, can be drawn on outside of the classroom, and applied to project management. So, even those of us who may feel we don’t have a lot of managerial experience, if we have a lot of classroom experience, we may already have developed a set of skills related to project management, whether we’re fully aware of them or not yet!

Hello Everybody,

I´m sorry I´m so delayed with my Project, I know I´m missing a lot of sharing but I´m doing my best to catch up with the group.

As regards the SMART objectives mentioned in Week 2 activities, these are my views:

• To improve the English of 7-11 year olds by June 2014
It´s too general and not achievable because the period of time of too short to assess improvement

• To enable 96% of those who wish to enter to get the required score on IELTS/TOEFL to enter the unversity of their choice, by September 2014
It´s not realistic, too general and, probably, too difficult to fulfil given the high percentage of successful candidates.

• To build a nice wheelchair ramp
• To improve access to the building
They are too general so sound like goals not objectives. They lack the SMART objetives characteristics.

We are keeping in touch very soon, Regards. Cristina
